In their third and final regular season road contest, Montini travels south to New Lenox to take on a tough Celtics team in a Chicago Catholic League Blue match-up. Both teams are coming off unusual weeks; Montini’s contest against Fenwick was postponed from Friday to Sunday on account of the weather, while Providence chose to forfeit last week’s game against Mt. Carmel due to safety concerns. The Bronco offense racked up 350 total yards of offense last week against the Friars, but they’ll face a tough Providence defense that has only allowed an average of 14 points per game. The Celtics offensively are a run-heavy team, with the freshman Vaughn getting the majority of the carries behind a physical offensive line. Phillips, who has been the quarterback since starter Kevin Conway went down with an injury against Morgan Park in Week 2, throws the ball well and has a number of targets at the receiver position. Montini’s defense, which has only allowed two rushing touchdowns this season, will be heavily tested by the speed and physicality of the Providence offense.
In lower-level action, the sophomore Broncos play at Providence at 5:30 on Friday, while the freshman team will host the Celtics for a 9:30 AM kickoff on Saturday.
