In the final game of the regular season, Montini returns home to take on an undefeated Crusader team for the outright Chicago Catholic League Blue division championship. Montini’s defense has been one of the team’s strengths all season, limiting opponents to an average of 141 yards per game while allowing only two rushing touchdowns. The Broncos will be heavily tested by the explosive Crusader offense led by the quarterback Bean, a senior with true dual-threat talent. Plunkett gets the majority of the carries on the ground, while a deep group of receivers and a physical offensive line round out the group. Brother Rice’s defense has been stingy all season, and Montini’s offense will face its toughest challenge yet. The Illinois-bound Fedanzo rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns last week against Providence, while Robert Brazziel and Deontay Bell continue to share time at quarterback, with both players tossing a touchdown pass last week. In perhaps the biggest regular-season game in the 53-year history of Montini football, expect the Broncos to start strong on both sides of the football as they look to complete an undefeated regular season for the third time in the last six seasons.
In lower-level action, the combined freshman-sophomore Broncos team will host the Crusaders for a 5:00 PM kick-off. Senior night festivities honoring the members of the football team, cheerleading squad, and Broncette dance team will be held at halftime of the preliminary game.
