After two home games to open the postseason, Montini hits the road for the quarterfinal round against a Mustang team that has surprised a lot of people so far in the postseason, outscoring its first two opponents by a 115-48 margin. Despite mustering only two yards of total offense in the first half, the Bronco offense racked up 200 total yards against Sycamore and score twice in the second half, win the game-winning score coming on a Deontay Bell touchdown run. Bell and Robert Brazziel continue to split time at quarterback, while senior running back Nick Fedanzo crossed the thousand-yard plateau with a 74-yard performance. The Montini offense will be a tough test for an Evergreen Park defense that has given up an average of 24 points per game in its first two playoff contests.
After a tough regular season, the Mustangs’ spread offense has exploded in the postseason thanks to the play of Turner and Williams, both of whom are freshman and have made some explosive plays in the first two weeks of the postseason. The offensive line in front of them plays fast and physical and will challenge the speed of Montini’s defense, which limited a potent Sycamore running game to 205 rushing yards last week. Four Broncos recorded double-digit tackles in the victory, while Scott West came away with the game-sealing interception late in the fourth quarter. This week, look for the Montini offense to provide a tough test for Evergreen Park defensively and for the Bronco defense to limit the speed and athleticism of the Mustangs’ offense.
