Scouting the Raiders: Hudson enters this week 0-1 following a 21-14 non-conference loss at Onalaska (WI) last week. After trailing for most of the contest, the Raiders tied the game in the fourth quarter only to have the host Hilltoppers score late for the game-deciding touchdown. Despite graduating 26 members of last season’s squad, the Raiders still boast depth at a number of positions. Senior Matteo Bonnin, last week’s starting fullback in Hudson’s double-wing scheme, carried the ball six times for 69 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown run for the Raiders’ first offensive score. Junior quarterback Owen Anderson completed 10 out of 21 passes for 77 yards, but also tossed two interceptions, including one on the Raiders’ final offensive play that sealed the win for Onalaska. Defensively, Hudson is led by junior linebacker Ethan Amelsberg, who recorded 11 tackles last week, along with senior defensive lineman Cade McDonald, a Wisconsin commit who recorded a sack and two tackles for a loss last week.
Lower-level outlook: This week, the freshman Broncos travel to Marist for a 5 PM kick-off on Friday. Montini’s JV team will also travel to Marist for a 9 AM game on Monday, September 2nd.
Did you know? The last time Montini faced a school from Wisconsin was ten years ago in 2009, when the Broncos played Weston DC Everest to fill an open slot caused by the closure of long-time archrival Driscoll. In a game played on a neutral field near Madison, the Broncos prevailed 45-20, with Brandon Pechloff setting a program record by throwing a 99-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Westerkamp, the longest play from scrimmage in Montini history.
