In contrast to the opener where the offense struggled for much of the game, the Montini Broncos scored early and often against the visiting Collins Academy Warriors this past Friday night en route to a 55-0 victory at John Duffy Memorial Stadium. The Broncos scored 41 points in the opening quarter, all on passing plays. Deontay Bell tossed three touchdowns, one each to Paul Flicek, Nate Muersch, and CJ Bufkin, while Nick Mudd connected with Muersch on a 47 yard catch-and-run and Blake Yore found Estevan Moreno for a 28 yard score. Montini added two rushing touchdowns after the running clock had been triggered, with Enzo May and Patrick O’Connor each finding the end zone. The Bronco defense recorded three interceptions, one each by Brandon Liston, Keenan Makowski, and Dan Canty, who returned his 20 yards for a score. Makowski and Patrick Peters led all defenders with five total tackles apiece.
In lower-level action, the combined freshman-sophomore Broncos defeated Kingdom Prep Lutheran 42-6. Montini opens up play in the newly formed CCL/ESCC this week with a crossover match-up on the road against Blue Division member Mt. Carmel. For the first time in school history, Mt. Carmel is playing all of its home games at the school’s campus at 6410 S. Dante Avenue in Chicago. Kick-off for the varsity game at Barda-Dowling Stadium at Carey Field is set for 7:30 PM on Friday, September 13th. The freshman game will kick off at 5 PM, while the JV matchup is set for 6 PM on Monday, September 16th. The varsity game will be televised on Comcast channel 100 as the “Game of the Week.”
