Where: Montini Catholic High School, 19W070 16th Street, Lombard, IL, 60148

2019 Records: Montini 7-2, Elmwood Park 6-3

Last meeting: Montini won 42-6 in 1982

Last week for the Broncos: Montini scored on six consecutive possessions and defeated Providence 41-21 and claim a share of the CCL/ESCC Green Division championship. Deontay Bell threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns, all to Nate Muersch, while also rushing for 127 yards and two scores. Patrick Peters led the defense with five total tackles, three for a loss, two quarterback sacks, and a forced fumble.

Scouting the Tigers: Elmwood Park finished the regular season with a 6-3 record and finished second in the Metro Suburban Red. The Tigers love to throw the ball out of their spread offense; senior quarterback Michael Stranski is a four-year starter with a strong arm and speed. His favorite target is Keon Grimes, while John Mazzola and David Neira are also targeted frequently. Defensively, Elmwood Park allows an average of 16 points per game and posted back-to-back shutouts against Westmont and Christ the King earlier in the season. Montini’s offense will look to put the pressure on the Tigers early in the contest.

Did you know? The last time these two teams met in 1982, Montini head coach Mike Bukovsky was the Broncos’ starting center. Montini that season finished 8-1 and made the playoffs for the second time in school history, advancing to the state semifinals before losing to Geneseo.
